How To Do Board And Batten With Existing Baseboard

Sharing a simple mode to install board and batten or any wainscoting without removing the baseboards.

I'm no stranger to creating my own DIY board and crossbar. Currently, I'm human knee deep in a DIY built in bookshelf feature wall and trying to figure out what to do about the fact that my boards stick out over the baseboard like a sore thumb. I take two options; remove the quondam baseboard or find a fashion to alloy the cease of the boards with the old baseboard. I'grand sure you can guess past the title which one I chose. Allow me testify yous a simple mode to install board and batten or any wainscoting without removing the baseboards.

Installing Board and Batten Without Removing the Baseboards

I'one thousand a little embarrassed to share this. Going back to my older posts and reviewing them is somewhat painful. The more projects I share, the more my "skills" are developed, and the more embarrassing those older projects become. Delight tell me you lot tin relate.

What I'm trying to say…..The commencement time I installed lath and batten I did non practice anything to the bottom of the boards to alloy them to the baseboards. Allow me show yous.

DIY Board and Batten- installing the batten

At the fourth dimension I told myself that this board and batten was more "functional" than "artful" so it was ok. To the poor people who bought our Modernistic farmhouse architect grade abode, I'm so deplorable (and for all those other DIY's that they might exist cursing me over now ;))

I think information technology turned out well, but I still cringe at the thought of those boards hanging over the baseboards.

Ok, dorsum to business.

How practice you install lath and batten or any wainscoting WITHOUT removing the baseboards?

You cut the lesser of the boards at a 45 caste angle with a miter saw.

Why did I not practise this the offset time effectually? Beginners mistakes, right?

This time effectually I'grand going to practice information technology correct.

At this indicate, I would ordinarily share my "methodology" on how to complete this DIY. But, I think this one is pretty straightforward.

Y'all utilize a miter saw to create a 45 degree angled cut and attach it to the wall. Got it? Got it! (Nevertheless kicking myself over not doing this the first time around).

Let me show you what it looks like on the wall.

FYI; these boards are 1 past 3 past viii Primed Pine Finger Joint boards.

A side note; these are not the "prettiest" pics, but real life folks!

Don't yous think information technology looks nice and finished at the edges? Hooray for honing my DIY skills (almost time right?)

I'm so pleased that I didn't accept to remove the current baseboards to add this wainscoting!

Making angled cuts at the base of operations of the boards to brand them looked "finished" actually saves time and looks good also!

Side note; I took a tip from a friend on Instagram that saidrather than using wood glue and nailing straight into the drywall, skip the gum and use the nails at an angle while alternating the angle each time you lot use a boom.Genius!

And so if you apply a smash at a thirty caste bending to the left, you need to employ the next ane at a 30 degree angle to the right. Does that make sense?

The alternating angles makes the wood more secure against the wall and less likely to come up out. Also, if you ever need to remove the wood, it's a lot easier! This might require a trivial drywall patch, but nothing terrible!

Do yous know another way to add wainscoting without removing baseboards? Let me know in the comments beneath, I might demand it for the future:)
